At the beginning of an assignment, we perform a Management Study of the position to be filled. The following executives in the client company are interviewed whenver possible:
- the manager to whom the position reports;
- managers of departments with whom the position will interact;
- subordinate executives who have experience in the organization.
-where pertinent, individuals outside the organization whose input would be valued.
An initial draft is circulated to key executives in the client company to be sure all concerned are in agreement on the nature and scope of the job and their expectations of it. Frequently, this proves enlightening and uncovers conflicts in perceptions of the position among the client company managers.
